Human concern for one another irrespective of caste and creed is basically rooted in Jesus’ call to “love your neighbour as yourself”. He is the person who has transformed the whole value-system of humanity. Fredrick Nietsche once said, “Jesus has brought in a trans-valuation of values”. He who took the side of the weak and the poor, the sick and the sinner and declared - “Blessed are the poor for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to them.”
Yet his human antecedents are miserably poor. He was born in a stable at Bethlehem in Palestine. His parents were very ordinary people – he was born into a carpenter’s family. He preached his Gospel (Good News) just for three years in the small country of Palestine. He never wrote a book. He was accepted and rejected; acclaimed and persecuted and at last crucified and killed by his enemies at the age of 33. They sealed his grave and even kept security-men to keep strict watch over his tomb.
But He rose from the grave on the third day and appeared to His disciple at several places at different times, and proved to them that he rose from the dead and is alive. The witnesses of the Risen Lord were ordinary people, like fishermen. The Christians have suffered martyrdom for centuries. Yet Christianity has become world’s most influential religion. The New Testament, the writings on the life and teachings of Christ, has become the most popular and inspiring book. And countless books have been published on Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ stands as the most influential person in human history because he livd as “The Man for others”.
His greatness consists in this that he lived and died for us. “I have come not to be served, but to serve and give my life as a ransom for many”.
During his life Jesus worked many miracles. But as the years passed by Jesus Christ Himself has become the Greatest Miracle for good of Humanity, the power of God working for our good and for our salvation.
