“The Christians’ sacred book is called Bible. It is made up of two parts – the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament describes the history of Israelites and contains books of history, law, poetry and wisdom. It was written by different people, between 1100 BC and 200 BC. The New Testament descries the story of Jesus’ life and his importance for Christians, and also contains writings by some important early Christians. It was probably written between AD 50 and 150. Passages from the Bible are read at Christian church services, and Christians also see the Bible as containing a code to live by and guidance in following their faith.”
(Whiteker’s WORLD OF FACTS, 2007 p. 165 )

“The commandments are divine laws handed down to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. They are key to both Christian and Jewish religions. The commandments appear in the book of Exodus (Ch. 20/ 2-17) and Deuteronomy (Ch. 4/13) in the Old Testament, but are also described by Jesus in Mathew’s Gospel in the New Testament, where he shortens them to just two – Love God, Love your neighbour.” (Ibid. 165)

01.
I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the Land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other God before me.

02.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

03.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold them guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

04.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, or thy son, or thy daughter, thy manservant, or thy maidservant, or thy cattle, or thy stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them, and rested on the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
05.
Honour thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
06.
Thou shalt not kill.
07.
Thou shalt not commit adultery
08.
Thou shalt not steal
09.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10.
Thou shalt not covet they neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet they neighbour’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour’s.

Lord Jesus Christ:
In about AD 30 a young Jewish man began to preach in Palestine that he was the Son of God, the Messiah or anointed one that the Jews had been expecting.  Many People accepted his message and his following grew rapidly. The Jewish authorities resented his work, and got him crucified by the Roman Governor of Palestine in about AD 33. Within a century his message had spread throughout Asia Minor and into Europe, becoming tolerated in the mighty Roman Empire in 313. Today, Christianity, the religion he founded, is one of world’s leading religious -faiths.

a. Early Life:
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in what is now Israeli occupied West Bank. He was trained as a carpenter. The Bible says that his mother Mary was a virgin when she gave him birth. In his early 30s he gave up his work and devoted his time to preaching and healing.

b. Jesus’ work:
For three years, Jesus preached his message throughout Palestine He gathered 12 local men to support him. They became known as apostles, from a Greek word meaning - a person sent or chosen.  Jesus declared the need for people to repent of their sins and to believe and follow him.  Within three years, his preaching and his ability to heal the sick brought him a considerable following throughout Palestine.  His wider group of followers became known as disciples

c. The Original 12 Disciples of Jesus:

(Luke 6/12-16)“At that time Jesus went up to a hill to pray. He spent the whole night in prayer with God. When day came he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them whom he called apostles.”
