Hundreds rewarded for transcribing Bible
Published Date: September 8, 2010

Suwon diocese is to present awards to 553 of its faithful who have transcribed the entire Bible.

A selection of first time efforts and transcriptions by senior citizens and juniors, as well as outstanding contributions such as calligraphic transcriptions will be on show at an exhibition and ceremony on Oct. 3.

The event, which has been running for over a decade, is part of a series of diocesan celebrations centered around the Bible. “It also includes a Bible quiz competition and an exhibition of creative works related to Bible stories,” said organizer Sister Dominic Savio Park of the diocese’s Evangelization and Education office.

“The exhibition has a different theme each year,” she said. “This year’s theme is The Prophets. The faithful prepare calligraphies, flower arrangements, paintings and sculptures for it.”

“This Bible event has become a festival which is very desirable in people’s faith life,” she added. The bishop of Suwon has also said that it is a good way to renew one’s faith as the diocese moves towards its 50th anniversary in 2013.

Transcribing the Bible is a sizeable task; it normally requires about a dozen 200 page notebooks.
